The new year brings lots of self-betterment ideas in search of a different outlook and new perspectives, a reinvention of some kind. There is such amazing potential in giving yourself permission to make a change and start again; looking back while moving, learning from the past, enjoying the gift of the present and embracing the excitement of believing that your best days are ahead of you.
I’ve was blessed with the opportunity to volunteer with the Field Team of Super Bowl LI. The experience was AWESOME! Learning more about football and embracing the sport has provided an opportunity for self-reflection. Football is hard. It’s tough. It demands discipline. It teaches obedience. It builds character. Football is a metaphor for life. As women, we face particularly unique hurdles in life. Some that require the complete overhaul of the machinery of our lives. She must own her truth, let go of fear and adjust her mindset. Here’s what I know:
If you aren’t excited about what you are doing, no one else will be either. The game of football requires players to fully commit to every aspect of the sport, driven by pure passion. This passion shines bright, especially in the small details. It’s all or nothing, that’s what makes a champion. Without passion, you’re stifling yourself and the potential of your journey.
Before the football season begins, the goals for the teams are set, and put in place. Haven’t we all heard about how important it is to set your goals, even before you get started with the work? It is the goal that helps you work through the strategy and build your best plan. A successful woman is one who understands the goals, defines the journey and envisions a winning strategy. Write down your goals, and make sure you have long-term goals as well as short-term goals. Make sure the goals are visible to you on a daily basis.
Persistence pays off. In life, as in football, situations arise that present a chance to really see and understand who you are and what you are capable of. There will be times when you want to give up, when you wonder if it’s worth the sacrifice — but your moments of growth, victory and success remind you that your persistence is necessary.
Passion + Goal Setting + Persistence = the “secret sauce” of life. Go get you some, ladies!
